Love Notes #002 | 2017

Love Notes #002 | 2017

Guess I'm still stuck reviewing 2017 stuff but hey, some (if not most) of us are nosy when it comes to knowing what other people love in terms of beauty and skincare. I'm not a beauty guru by any means but I love to pamper my skin and getting dolled up. Also because I need a distraction from how angry I am thanks to the whole Logan Paul stupidity that still makes me taste iron in my mouth.

2017 was the year of skincare splurging and my rising obsession towards Colourpop as a brand — although releasing new palettes so often kind of turned me off a little bit. I also changed my skincare regime and adapted a low pH routine after reading this informative post. Call me crazy but I think my skin has been feeling so much better than before. There is less redness and acne, especially during that time of the month. I still get small pimples but they're very small compared to how it used to be. I'm guessing this is thanks to the low pH cleanser I've been loving. Since we're at it, here's the "magical" cleanser that I'm going to claim is one of my absolute favorites.

Cosrx Good Morning Gel Cleanser

I'm sure skincare junkies have heard about this product before but it's not raved without a cause. The Cosrx cleanser is a super mild and super gentle cleanser great for all skin types. I have normal to combination skin and this product works awesome! It doesn't leave that squeaky clean feeling behind (which is not good and something I'm still trying to get used to) and makes my face feeling fresh, awake and brighter. I especially love to use it in the morning. I also find that thanks to this cleanser, I no longer experience breakout and redness like I used to. It is said that acidic cleansers prevent bacteria to live on the surface of our skin so maybe that's true. I suggest you read more about it here.

The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension

This. Is. The. Gem. Of 2017 for me. This was the life-changing product that works wonders to my skin! I have redness around my nose and on my chin, which I think is still considered a mild level of rosacea, and I use this product religiously every single night (but only on my nose and chin!) Sometimes I use it during the day if I want a quick fix before wearing makeup too but mostly during night time before bed. It does feels itchy and burns a little at first but I found that if I hydrated my skin beforehand, it will minimize the itch. That or I will fan myself until the itch fades. I then wait around 10-20 minutes before applying my moisturizer.

Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Lotion

Korean skincare regime has toners, Japan has lotions. From what I see, toners are more watery and runny while lotions tend to look milky white or a little thicker than water. Even though I use both toners and lotion in rotation, I've been loving the Hada Labo hyaluronic lotion so much more in 2017. A very famous brand and product in Japan, it's free from harsh chemicals and plumps my skin so well, especially my cheeks. Like the commercial, I enjoy slapping patting my face whenever I use it.

Imju Naturie Hatomugi Skin Conditioner

When I'm not using the Hada Labo lotion, this is the toner that I discovered and loved in 2017.  also use this as a pH balancing toner when I was still using the Innisfree green tea cleanser (which by the way has a pH level above 7, yikes!) For 500ml, this affordable multi-purpose 'skin conditioner' is also great for lotion mask. I also transfer this into a spray bottle so I can use it as a facial spray to replace my fancy a** Evian.

Innisfree Green Tea Balancing Lotion + Cream

Even though I no longer use the cleanser from this line, I still love their lotion and cream. The balancing line is best for normal to combination skin too. The lotion is lightweight and feels like an emulsion, making it perfect for daytime use. The cream is, obviously, my night time moisturizer. If you have dry skin, check out their their "green tea moisture" line and green tea seed serum. For people with oilier skin, they also have one called the "green tea fresh."

The Body Shop Almond Milk & Honey

I wrote a whole post about this range because of how much I love it. Finally, finally a range for dry and sensitive skin from TBS! Out of all the products in this line, my ultimate favorite is definitely their body butter. As someone who suffers from constant eczema, the body glides on really easily and does not make my skin itchy — which is one problem I have with their strawberry body butter, a case I do not understand.

Kiehl's Scented Lip Balm #1 in Mint

I discovered this product in early 2017 and have been wearing it every night I go to bed. Unlike the awesome Clinique superbalm lip treatment that fixed my chapped lips overnight, the Kiehl's lip balm is great for a quick relief when I'm on the go. I think the reason why it cannot match the Clinique one is because this is a balm, not a lip treatment (which I assume is more effective, just like a lip mask,) BUT I definitely prefer this over using Vaseline petroleum jelly. I also find that this makes my lips look plumper but the effect doesn't last all day (duh, it's not a lip plumper!) and serves as a good base before applying matte lipstick.

Maybelline Fit Me Matte & Poreless

Okay, this thing here is my staple foundation of all time. I had a phase where I kind of went nuts with trying out foundation but realized that in the end, I will always come back to the Fit Me Matte and Poreless. It covers well, feels lightweight, has a natural satin finish and lasts all day long. I cannot stress how much I love this way more than the Revlon Colorstay which feels thick and is so full coverage.

Colourpop Yes Please Palette

I mentioned this in my November favorite so I'm not going to start blabbering on and on about my love for this Natasha Denona 'Sunset' palette dupe. Pigmentation and blendability are on point; price is always on point with Colourpop. This is probably the best palette they came out with in my opinion.

Peachy tones, oranges and reds

2017 was the year where I decided to venture forth when it comes to doing my makeup. I'm talking eye makeup and lip colours, nothing else. I still don't contour or bronze because a). I like looking pale and b). ain't got time for that Kim K routine. But thanks to Becky for inspiring me, I found myself dipping one foot at a time when it comes to incorporating more colors like oranges, reds, blues and purples. Since I don't have a lot of blues and purples in my collection, I've been using more reds and oranges and less browns, neutrals and pinks. I still love my neutrals of course but I am obsessed with reds now. This includes choosing to wear more reds and oranges on the lip.

That's all for my 2017 beauty favorites. Believe it or not, despite my interest in this subject, I don't really go extremely glam with my makeup. I don't have 10 foundations, 20 highlights and/or 20 eyeshadow palettes so I guess it's really why I don't have lots of makeup stuff mentioned here. I usually just try to make what I have achieve what I want — two birds with one stone kind of a thing.
