Almond Milk & Honey

Almond Milk & Honey

Finding the right body products is difficult when you suffer from chronic dry and eczema-prone skin. Most commercial range found in grocery stores are either too harsh, too scented or are packed with sulfates even if they claim to be mild and gentle. And since I'm always on the hunt for a good body care product for sensitive skin, I can't say I wasn't curious when They Body Shop decided to launch a new range dedicated to it.

If you have been following my blog, you'd know how much I adore The Body Shop. From skincare to makeup, I own at least one product from them. Though their makeup has a lot of hits and misses, some of their skin and especially body care products are fixed staples in my collection. So, when they released a new range called almond milk & honey, I just knew I have to try them out.

I'll be honest, the range name was the first thing to have ticked my interest. As if it's not obvious by the name of this blog, I am obsessed with anything with 'milk' on it — well, for the most part. I am also in love with honey scented things and a spoonful of honey, raw and sweet. The second reason was obvious — this is meant for dry and sensitive skin.

The almond milk & honey is formulated with community trade ingredients and organic sources specifically tailored for people with sensitive skin. As it should be, this range is also free from colorants, 100% vegetarian and is cruelty-free. All products in this range have been dermatologically tested, contains hypoallergenic fragrance and help restore and nourish the skin. While I personally prefer unscented products for sensitive skin (since no matter how "hypoallergenic" a product claims to be, fragrance is still fragrance), I find that these do not cause any allergic reaction for my thin skin — which I'll elaborate later.

The products available in this range include: cleansing bar, and cream, shower cream, bath milk, a gentle exfoliating scrub, body butter and body lotion.

Since not all of the products are available in my local TBS store, I only bought four of them: the body butter, body lotion, bath milk and exfoliating body scrub. I also managed to get a $7.48 discount thanks to my TBS membership point. In total, I only have to pay $45 for all items.

Gentle Exfoliating body scrub

Oh, scrubs. Where do I start. It's difficult for me to find a good scrub that works because one with really abrasive beads tend to irritate m skin and a lot of "gentle" scrubs have been the culprit in the past. But this, this lives up to its claim for promising a gentle exfoliation. Sealed in a handy plastic tub, it contains very tiny almond shell pieces and a creamy consistency which makes it suitable for sensitive skin unlike most body scrubs out there that feel like sandpaper. If you're looking for a body scrub with strong "grit" then this is definitely not for you. However, this is definitely a better choice for dry / sensitive skin.

Soothing & Protecting body lotion

Just like the range it represents, this body lotion has a creamy, milky (heh) consistency that does a good job in moisturizing my skin. It claims to provide 48 hour moisture but I'm not so sure about that. Although it doesn't feel heavy or greasy, I don't think this is the perfect body lotion for people who prefer a more watery and runny bod lotion that sinks into the skin like that.

Calming & Caring Bath Milk

Look at that packaging! Isn't it shaped like a cute milk bottle? I was so intrigued when I saw this in the range, partly because TBS never came up with a body milk before — or at least, not that I'm aware of. I never tried a bath milk before too so when I saw this in store, my mind was practically squealing "yes, I wanna try this!" So I did. Guess what, it's soooo delicious! It creates so much bubbles and the lukewarm water in my tub becomes super soft and soothing. I also like to use this bath milk like a regular body wash, leaving it on for a few minutes before rinsing off. I love, love this product.

Soothing & Restoring body butter

I don't think I need to go south by explaining this one. I've been a huge fan of The Body Shop body butter collection for years. They have so many selections of scents and do such a good job in giving my skin a quick TLC and intense hydration all day long. Like its sister products in the range, the body butter has a subtle milk and honey (duh!) scent that is light and sweet. Nothing too intense to the point of nausea, though. Since this is a body butter, the consistency is without a doubt thicker than their body lotion which makes it ideal for those with extremely dry skin.

Overall, I am in love with this range and I hope they continue to be permanent regulars in the TBS shelf. I would go as far as to say that this is probably my ultimate favorite range from them. The only downside I have is how they still use fragrance. I think TBS should know better than to use fragrance for sensitive skin, even if it's a hypoallergenic one. I am someone who believes that if a product meant for sensitive skin still contains fragrance, it takes one point off from their perfect 10/10 score. Regardless, I will definitely repurchase the body lotion, butter and scrub in the future.

Have you tried any of these?
